Across the schools in our district, teachers are rising to the challenge of educating and caring for our children—often with fewer resources than ever before. Class sizes are growing, classroom supports are shrinking, and the needs of our diverse learners are becoming more complex. Yet, our staff continue to show up with dedication, creativity, and compassion.
They are not only teaching curriculum—they are managing classrooms with limited assistance, supporting students with exceptionalities, and addressing mental health needs, often without the specialized support they deserve. This is not sustainable.
If we truly value education, we must invest in the people who make it possible. Supporting our teachers means ensuring they have the tools, time, and training to meet every child where they are. It means advocating for fair funding, adequate staffing, and policies that prioritize both student success and staff well-being.
Our teachers are doing more with less. It’s time we do more for them.
I want to collaborate to ensure our classrooms receive the resources needed for high-quality education, and here's how:
Engage regularly with fellow trustees to align on funding priorities and speak with a unified voice.
Foster partnerships with all levels of government and participate in advocacy networks like the Alberta Catholic School Trustees’ Association.
Involve parents and stakeholders in advocacy efforts to protect and enhance Catholic education funding.
Advocate for funding that reflects the diverse needs of Catholic schools, including students with exceptionalities, English Language Learners, and mental health supports.
Support long-term financial planning and transparent budget processes that prioritize student learning and well-being.
Monitor spending efficiency to ensure equitable resource distribution across schools.
Encourage partnerships with local businesses, parishes, and community organizations.
Support grant writing initiatives for special programs, technology, and infrastructure.
Share success stories and provide regular updates to the community on budget decisions and their impact on student achievement and faith formation.
